New Modbus/TCP remote I/O solution

New Modbus/TCP remote I/O solution

The Industrial Automation Group of Advantech introduces a new high-density Modbus/TCP Remote I/O solution, the APAX-5070. This new Modbus/TCP coupler module allows to add remote I/O functionality to any PC, controller or HMI device that supports the Modbus/TCP protocol.

The APAX series is designed for the control market, with analog input modules that have dynamic configuration allowing users to configure multiple inputs such as voltage, current, and thermocouple functions in one module, and each channel can be configured with different ranges and types. Furthermore, the APAX-5070 Modbus/TCP coupler is equipped with two RJ-45 ports with same IP address which can build daisy chains to connect remote I/O devices directly without an additional Ethernet switch.

APAX-5070 also features flexible Modbus address mapping which allow users to allocate Modbus address mapping automatically or manually, so that it can minimize the data size transferred between APAX-5070 and Modbus/TCP master, like PC, controller or HMI and shortens data response time. APAX-5070 can perform alarms without a controller, with only the help of a utility to control the output module based on input conditions, making it more intelligent. APAX-5070 allows connection to digital I/O modules (max. 768 points) or analog I/O modules (max.192 points) with a large connecting capacity, effectively allowing users to build cost-effective remote I/O systems.

APAX-5000 couplers and I/O modules can be equipped as either local I/O or remote I/O through Ethernet backplane and any standard switch. APAX-5000 offers 1 and 2 slots backplanes, APAX-5001 and APAX-5002. Each APAX-5002 backplane offers one expansion port. Using a standard Ethernet cable to connect the expansion port on the two backplanes, a remote expansion with local-bus speed is built, and the distance can be up to 100 m.
