Scalable computing for IoT data Rockwell Automation: Three compute offerings at the device level help operators make faster, more informed decisions closer to the source of information. Each offering allows users to run applications in a Windows 10 IoT Enterprise environment to gain better insight into machines and equipment. The variety of platforms also gives users flexibility to meet individual application needs. The Allen-Bradley ControlLogix compute module allows users to add Windows 10 IoT directly into the Logix system in existing applications and provides high-speed access to ControlLogix data across the backplane. As a result, users can combine Windows applications as close to the point of decision-making as possible. The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 5480 controller combines Logix5000 control and Windows-based computing in one controller. The controller supports Windows applications, such as data collection, analytics and predictive computations. It is designed for meeting the demands of high-performance production lines and information-driven smart machines. Third, the Allen-Bradley VersaView 5000 industrial computers provide modern visualization and data aggregation for smart manufacturing. The computers use an open architecture design, allowing users to install software specific to their applications. Connectivity software for IIoT RTI : Connext DDS software ensures edge to fog to cloud connectivity for secure and scalable IIoT applications. Connext DDS 5.3 provides connectivity software for building layereddatabus architectures and IIoT systems. Typical IIoT systems require sharing data across multiple networks, from the edge to the fog to the cloud. For example, in a connected hospital, devices have to communicate within a patient or operating room, to nurses’ stations and off-site monitors, to real-time analytics applications for smart alarming and clinical decision support, and with IT health records. This is challenging for several reasons. Built on the Object Management Group (OMG) Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard, Connext DDS 5.3 introduces support for the recently finalized DDS Security standard. As a result, devices and applications developed with Connext DDS 5.3 will interoperate with those that take advantage of future Connext DDS versions. Communication over power lines Renesas Electronics: The new solution consists of a PLC software modem (R9A06G037), which manages the PLC communications, and the RX651 microcontroller (MCU), which controls the audio codec processing. The new solution enables system manufacturers to enhance security systems by incorporating voice capabilities to an existing installation at low cost. For a new installation that includes various sensors as well as voice communication, wiring costs can be reduced by approximately 60 percent while installation and maintenance costs can be reduced up to 40 percent. Facilities such as office buildings have a variety of management systems installed including climate control systems, lighting, sensors of various types, building PA systems, and security systems. In the past, each of these systems would have required their own dedicated wiring. Recently, trends have shifted toward utilizing existing direct current (DC) power lines in configurations where these communication lines are shared with the power system. Fibre cables for Industrial Ethernet HARTING: Fiber optic solutions are addressing extremely tough environments. One new solution for high data rates under extreme conditions is an expanded beam cable assembly. As a result, HD-TV is no longer a problem on machines and systems because the fibre is packed in a connector that cannot be affected by dust, water or operation in harsh environments environments. Al so, regular di s - connec t ion and re-connection of cabling in these environments is less problematic compared to standard fiber optic cabling. Even extending the length of the optical connection is uncomplicated, and is as simple as connecting an additional cable, with no need to pay attention to the laying direction. Thanks to the hermaphroditic mating face, an additional adapter is not required. As a result, the customer saves time and money, and also the risk of having a mating face other than needed at the end of the cable. USB smart modules Molex: Single port and dual port modules allow for fast charging in automotive and commercial vehicles. The USB Smart Charge Modules are available in both single port and dual port models. Outside of the number of ports, the two models are nearly identical.
