One hall dedicated to software in manufacturing

Now that the age of digital transformation has arrived, the IT and automation industries are growing more intertwined than ever. As a result, the organizers of SPS IPC Drives have decided to reconfigure the topics covered in the exhibition's halls. Hall 6 is entirely dedicated to Software and IT in manufacturing. Microsoft Germany, SAP Germany, and other IT providers show solutions for industrial web services, virtual product development and design, digital business platforms, IT/OT-technologies, fog-/edge- and cloud computing, and more. Cyber security solutions are also presented by numerous exhibitors in 2017, including Kaspersky Lab.

Unlike in recent years, SPS IPC Drives 2017 is taking place after Thanksgiving, making it more attractive for exhibitors and visitors from the US. "It is the perfect platform to meet providers of electric automation technology from all around the globe and find out further information on cutting-edge technologies,” says Sylke Schulz-Metzner, Vice President SPS IPC Drives at Mesago Messe Frankfurt GmbH.

Here are some of the new products and solutions introduced at SPS IPC Drives 2017.

Wireless M2M solutions

The AMIT IOG product series for industrial applications connects Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) into cyber-physical production systems. Remote monitoring and control are implemented via wireless connectivity, based on high-bandwidth/high-speed LTE to cover wide range of applications. The series is equipped with rich management functionality, featuring data logging, and providing support for Modbus TCP/RTU.
Each IOG product comes with VPN secure tunneling to ensure network safety. Reliability is enhanced with power redundancy and rugged enclosure design. The series is ready to be used in harsh environments and operates in wide temperature rage.

Remote IO system

BEx1 is a compact and innovative remote IO system from BEx-Solution for hazardous areas with different Ethernet fieldbus systems. It includes busnode, isolating amplifier an 32 IO channels with four different functions in a compact housing. The module is designed for installation in zone 1/21.
32 intrinsically safe channels distributed to eight digital and analogue inputs and outputs provide direct connection of sensors and actuators from zone 0/20. The metal housing and the special potting technology ensure safe operation under extreme ambient conditions from -40°C to +70°C. This design reduces installation effort and cost, as isolating amplifiers are not required, and allows a decentralized placement in the field.

Smart displays based on Raspberry PI

Distec presents their new IoT-compliant POS-Line IoT monitor for industry 4.0 applications. The monitor is based on the newly developed Artista-IoT controller board, integrating the latest generation of the Raspberry PI Compute Module (CM3).
The Artista-IoT controller card provides comprehensive functionality with direct control, 100 Mbit Ethernet, real-time clock, and special functions such as DICOM pre-set, gamma correction, and color calibration. Available interfaces include USB, GPIOs, I²C, and UART. The compatibility to Raspberry PI offers the broad support of a large community of developers for advancement and integration.

The future of real-time communication

The Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG) shows how the open, standardized protocols POWERLINK, openSAFETY and OPC UA TSN dovetail with each other to create state-of-the-art communication architectures with advanced safety and security features. The TSN Ethernet extension makes OPC UA deterministic. In combination with the openSAFETY protocol, it now meets all the requirements for safe line automation at the factory level. OPC UA provides semantic descriptions of information models and security mechanisms that facilitate the convergence of IT and OT.
EPSG demonstrates how interface-free communication will soon provide seamless connectivity from the sensor layer to the ERP layer and into the cloud. The foundation for this has been laid with the companion specification for OPC UA and POWERLINK.

Industrial cellular PoE gateway

The JetWave 2714 Series from Korenix is an industrial-grade Cellular LTE Router with multiple PoE and SFP Fiber Ethernet ports. It is equipped with the next generation 4G LTE module which supports up to 100M DL and 50M UL. The two Gigabit 802.3at PoE ports support up to 30W power source to power devices. Two 100/1000Base-X SFP fiber-port-design provide great flexibility for field installation.
JetWave 2714 supports cellular communication features such as multiple ports to LTE NAT Routing, dual SIM standby, SNMP, LLDP, and Mobile Manager Server for remote monitoring. Moreover, it provides different types of VPN Client technologies and 1-1 OpenVPN Server for secure M2M connectivities.

Connecting Modbus devices to Fieldbus Cloud

Smartbox Mini is based on the Telit Chipset HE910. This ready to use solution from m2m Germany connects Modbus devices to the Cumulocity "Fieldbus Cloud". It provides a Modbus RTU Master Communication on RS485 for connecting up to 20 devices. The setup allows to easily configure automation fielddevices like pumps, e-meters, airhandling units in the Cumulocity Fieldbus cloud. The Smartbox Mini can automatically pick up data and send alarms, measurements and status back to Cumulocity.
Using the Smartrest protocol, the terminalprovides a low traffic solution for decentralized applications.

Red Dot design award

The new noax S21WP industrial PC with PCAP touch technology from noax won the Red Dot Top Product Design 2017 Award. The Red Dot Award, one of the world’s largest design competitions, for which companies from over 50 countries have registered products.
The new noax S21WP industrial PC with PCAP touch technology features a rugged housing made of finely polished stainless steel, coupled with a non-reflective touchscreen made of hardened safety glass. The housing features special food-safe screws and EPDM seals in order to prevent hygienically critical undercuts or dead spaces. noax Technologies claims that the S21WP is the first industrial PC that offers modified PCAP touch technology that can be operated with gloves.

Network visualization and analytics

Panduit exhibits new Profinet Industrial Ethernet solutions. IntraVUE Version 3.0 industrial network visualization and analytics software, provides intuitive industrial network visualization to everyone supporting the plant floor. SynapSense wireless environmental monitoring system provides a low‐cost, easy‐to‐deploy solution to gather, communicate, and visualize environmental data within your facility for improved reliability, product quality and energy optimization. The Pre-Configured Industrial Distribution Frame (IDF) provides design flexibility for deploying and protecting rack mount Ethernet switches. It is claimed to be 25% faster to install than comparative products and to offer three times the typical cooling capacity.

Firewall according to IEC 62443

The mGuard remote maintenance routers from Phoenix Contact will be even more secure: With the new firmware 8.5, custom firewall rules can now also be stored inside and outside of the VPN tunnel for routers belonging to device class 2000. The security of remote maintenance components will be significantly improved as a result. This means that they can also be used as full-fledged, inexpensive security components in machines and systems.
The new functions facilitate the professional and inexpensive implementation of the Defense-in-Depth concept in accordance with ISA-99 and IEC 62443. Users currently operating class 2000 remote maintenance routers will receive the new security function free of charge as soon as they update to firmware 8.5.

TSN Demonstrator

The Sercos TSN Demonstrator shows the transmission of the Sercos III real-time protocol via IEEE 802.1 TSN (time-sensitive networks). It demonstrates the possibilities for providing a real-time and multi-protocol-capable network infrastructure based on TSN for automation technology. The demonstrator was developed at the Institute for Control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW) at the University of Stuttgart with the support of several industrial partners.
A TSN-based Sercos III SoftMaster with a Soft-CNC from Industrielle Steuerungstechnik (ISG) is used, which communicates with Sercos III servo drives from Bosch Rexroth via TSN switches from Hirschmann Automation & Control. At the same time, video streams from a web cam are transmitted to a remote display via the same TSN network infrastructure, but without hampering the characteristics and functionality of the Sercos real-time communication.

Digitalization for machine and plant builders

Under the banner "Discover the Value of the Digital Enterprise", Siemens is exhibiting an array of applications and examples of how machine and plant builders can sharpen their competitive edge with digitalization. Innovations featured range from new software versions for more efficient engineering through digital drive systems to the open cloud-based IoT operating system MindSphere, which opens up scope for new business models to machine and plant builders.
The ecosystem surrounding the open cloud-based IoT operating system MindSphere continues to expand. This year's MindSphere Lounge covers an area of 1,400 sqm, where around 20 partner companies such as Amazon Web Services, Atos, Evosoft and Rittal, Siemens are demonstrating the diverse application and connection scope of the system.

Wireless multi-touch panel

The wireless handheld panel HGW 1033 from Sigmatek offers a 10.1-inch multi-touch display (PCT) that is suitable for industrial applications, a wide range of visualization options, and an intuitive operating concept. This handheld HMI icomes equipped with Safety functions like confirmation button, key switch and a lighting emergency stop button. An illuminated red mushroom button indicates that the HGW 1033 is correctly linked to the system and the Safety elements are ready to use. The Safety data is transmitted via the standard WLAN network but according to the Black Channel Principle.
With the wireless HMI, the machine operator can operate multiple machines, robots or system units at the same time with only one panel. A dual-core EDGE2 Technology processor provides the necessary visualization power. The integrated battery back guarantees 2 hours of continuous use without having to recharge the mobile panel. The wireless panel supports OPC-UA communication and includes a USB interface as standard. Optionally, an RFID reader can be integrated to authorize access levels.

Data integration for IoT

The new version of Softing dataFEED OPC Suite with REST Connector and support for NoSQL databases enables data from automation networks to be integrated into applications supporting REST protocols. Data may originate from a variety of sources including control systems from leading manufacturers such as Siemens, Rockwell, Mitsubishi and B&R as well as OPC UA or OPC Classic servers.
Softing’s dataFEED OPC Suite combines a full package of components for OPC and IoT cloud communication within a single product. In addition to the integrated REST interface, the MQTT gateway and OPC UA support enable easy integration of legacy and new controllers into cloud solutions such as Microsoft Azure or IBM Bluemix.

Edge gateway with dedicated cloud service

MFN 100 is the flexible device for machine control and connectivity in the TTTech Nerve product portfolio. Nerve is an all-in-one solution that handles control, compute and connectivity, and provides a dedicated cloud service to monitor and manage machines remotely.
MFN 100 uses fogOSTM and fogSMTM software from Nebbiolo Technologies which can be used to build up a scalable fog computing architecture. The fogOSTM hosts applications and interfaces seamlessly with the System Manager. The fogSMTM (System Manager) is hosted as service in the customer's region or on premise, giving easy access to live and historical machine data. A range of connectivity options are supported including WLAN, Ethernet fieldbus and TSN.

Connecting Ethernet networks

The Turck TBEN-LG-EN1 spanner is a block I/O module that enables communication between two different Ethernet networks directly in the field. The robust module with protection to IP65/IP67/IP69K features a glass fiber reinforced housing and fully potted module electronics.
The TBEN-L spanner supports Turck's multiprotocol technology and thus enables communication in EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and Profinet networks. This also enables use as a protocol converter between Ethernet protocols. For an optimum connection between the different networks, two separate, electrically isolated Ethernet interfaces and the NAT (Network Address Translation) router function for up to five IP addresses.

Web-based SCADA and HMI

The new version of the WEBfactory i4SCADA visualization solution contains numerous new features, which are designed to make it easier to use and provide new possibilities. In addition to the SmartEditor for HTML5 the new features include also the IoT SCADA Manager, the product licensing, the i4SCADA Studio and the new Service Manager.
i4SCADA server now connects directly to the Microsoft Azure IoT Hub through the new IoT SCADA Manager. It supports the transmission of online values, alarm messages and historical values. Users can specifically determine individual values for the IoT transmission, as well as freely define the period of the transmission frequency. If the i4SCADA server is restarted, the IoT Manager automatically synchronizes itself and ensures that the data is always up to date.
